Toad for Oracle v12.9 is out in the wild...

Today is the day...v12.9 has been officially released.  You can download it from the support site - https://support.software.dell.com/toad-for-oracle/12.9/download-new-releases.

John Pocknell (the Product Manager for Toad for Oracle) was kind enough to put together a blog that talks about some of the features that we've done for this release.  I won't steal his thunder so here's a link to his blog.

http://www.toadworld.com/products/toad-for-oracle/b/weblog/archive/2016/06/15/what-39-s-coming-in-toad-for-oracle-2016

We're going to take a deep breath and then start up the beta program for the next version in a few weeks.

"Disappearing" headers exporting to a Excel 2016 table from Toad 12.8

I'm using Toad 12.8's Export Dataset in format Excel File, and have selected "include column headers". Once in Excel 2016 I'm using Ctrl-L (Create Table) to apply a table style and filters. The column headers then "disappear" because the font color and the background color are now identical. The workaround is to apply a table style that does *not* have a title row. Unfortunately I cannot set that as a default: while Excel 2016 offers that option, it has no effect.

Can this be fixed by a tweak to Toad's settings?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Maybe you were using 12.8 for 32-bit but installed the 64-bit version of TOAD 12.9?

Re-check and reinstall if needed the 32bit version of TOAD 12.9 instead, it seems you're using a 32-bit Oracle client and they have to match.

Dear All

I am using toad for Oracle. version is 12.8.0.49
After update toad new version. I see the error message (No valid Oracle clients found. You need at least one 64-bit client properly configured.) when I run 12.9.0.71 verion.
Actually, I tried re-install oracle client. but show the same error message.
How can I fix?

Unfortunately not.   Coincidentally, I just found about this yesterday and fixed it.   The fix will appear in the first beta for 12.10.

As a workaround, you could use the "Excel Instance" export option (then you'd have to save the file yourself from Excel)

RE: How can I filter for a date in toad

There's more than one way to filter a table so I'm not sure exactly what you are doing.   If you are using the dialog that says "Table Sort/Filter" at the top, then you'll need to use a to_date expression (this is the best way to filter a large table because it will change the query and the filtering will be done by Oracle).

If you are using the grid's built in filter, click on "Today" to see what format it expects, then change the value to whatever you need.    (This way is probably easier to set up, but it does not limit the data that comes out of the database and to your computer - the grid just hides the non-matching rows.   This is fine for small tables, but it can cause all rows to be loaded into memory on your computer, so you don't want to do this with large tables)

I am using the filtering icon on the table, but I am not able to filter for a date, I continue to get an error message

Date indicates
7/16/2012 10:13:07 PM
7/16/2012 10:13:07 PM
7/16/2012 10:13:07 PM
7/16/2012 10:13:07 PM

How can I put that in my nifty filter?

I continue to get "not a valid" when I put in 7/16/2012, or 07/16/2012, or 16/07/2012

Please help

First of all, define crash.  Do you get an access violation?  Does it hang?  If you get an AV, there should be a dialog that appears where you can get the call stack and send it to the group.

There may be an error log generated. If you have Toad.el located in your user files folder please post it.  The appdata location is specified in Options on the General page.

Below is the error that appears in the popup box:

Windows can check online for a solution to the problem.

Unfortunately, there is no current error log.

TOAD crashing consistently

I'm running Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit.

Just upgraded to TOAD 12.9.0.71 hoping that would deal with crashing, but still happens.

Initial connection when opening TOAD works no problem.  Often when I connect to another database or as another user, TOAD crashes.  Just about every time I close TOAD, either by hitting the red X or File... Exit, TOAD crashes.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but no luck; nothing seems to work.

Any suggestions?  I've searched high and low and haven't found anything useful so far.

Thanks.

RE: Search Automation Designer Queries and/or Execute Stored Procedure using Automation Designer

It's a bit of a hack, but you can select all of the actions and do a CTRL+C, then paste into notepad and search there.    Then when you find what you are looking for, scroll up to find the name of the action.

Search Automation Designer Queries and/or Execute Stored Procedure using Automation Designer

I have a number of scheduled reports I run for users and utilize the Toad Automation Designer to maintain the various queries and output files.  The problem is that if I ever need to look at all of the queries, for example to figure out which contain a certain string, it appears as though I need to open each action individually to look at the query.  Is it possible to search the query text in the actions saved in the Automation Designer?  The Search functionality appears to only search the action names and not the queries that may be contained within them.

I know you can run a query to find all references of a given string in the various PL/SQL functions, procedures, and packages so I thought maybe I could add the queries to a PL/SQL package so they could more easily be searched.  My problem is that I can't figure out if I can execute those stored procedures in the Automation Designer.  Specifically, I want to be able to execute the stored procedure and save the output cursor to the desired output file.  Is this possible?

> OK, so I think the PW filled in by toad is the new one that I attempted to change but Oracle had an error with.

Yup, that's what was happening.   I don't have any password complexity rules set up but I was able to reproduce it by putting in a password that is greater than 30 characters long.

I've made a couple of changes.

  1) If the password change fails, the window will stay open (you can try again or cancel)

  2) If you close the window after a failed attempt of changing the password, we won't remember what you first tried to change it to.

Password change bug

I recently attempted to change my password. Toad knows the existing PW, fills that in, I put in my new PW twice, clicked OK, and got an error from Oracle that I had to change 3 characters.

OK, no problem, I reopen the PW change screen, old PW pre filled in, put in a new PW that changes 3 characters, and hit OK, get error that the PW is invalid from Oracle.

OK, so I think the PW filled in by toad is the new one that I attempted to change but Oracle had an error with.

So I reopen the PW screen, change the pre filled in PW to my old PW, put in my new PW and hit OK, and now I get an error from TOAD that the old PW is not correct.

Please allow the old PW to be different from what TOAD thinks is the correct PW and/or check for errors before updating it.

Howdy!

Looks like the Formatter tabs->spaces issue didn't make it to 12.9 GA....  [insert beerless sad face here]

Error messages in Toad Editor

I can live with the exclamation points in red circles. But the popup error message makes it impossible to see anything if I opt to keep typing code with plan to fix typos and stuff later. Problem is I can't find stop to stop the behavior or move it to someother place.  Been using Toad long enough you'd think I'd know what to do - but I don't for this.

Running the new 12.9 for first time and this behavior is new from what I had. Seems some of my settings made it through the update process and others did not. Win10 64bit in case someone is curious.

Some one from support suggested to rename file ToadActions.dat and after doing this,  I closed laptop while leaving office and when logged to laptop it gave message ad do you want to connect and then it is not crashed only 2-3 times. I.e. 3rd time onwards again same problem of crahsing, rarely once in 1 week it is asking do you want to connect (I haven't check check box for automatic connection).   I am trying to raise request for SQL developer instead of following this stupid software. The following is the error message.
