Licensing rules for "Toad for Oracle"

Hi All,

I really need help with this as i don't have much experience with this product

Could you share standard publisher licensing rules for "TOAD for Oracle"? Is it possibly a component of other products?  Perhaps some are included as part of TOAD FOR ORACLE PROFESSIONAL EDITION or TOAD FOR ORACLE BASE EDITION or TOAD FOR ORACLE DB ADMIN MODULE

Specifically, I’m also trying to understand the differences across the following:

  • Toad for Oracle
  • Toad for SQL Server
  • Toad for Data Analysts
  • Toad Data Modeler
  • Toad for MySQL

So any help would be fantastic.

Regards

I added the idea to the Idea Pond, but would need a faster response.

The problem is compliance with PCI-DSS standard, that requires that at no point in time the unencrypted PAN should be stored on any media. SaveSQL.dat file stores SQL statements in native form thus violating the PCI-DSS standard. Hence the company supports many credit and charge cards for several banks, SQL statements containing PAN are quite commonly used by data analysts.

When setting the save SQL parameter to 0 still stores the last SQL statement to the SaveSQL.dat file. Suggestion is that the parameter 0 would really mean no SQL to be stored (I think that this is a bug) or better, that the SaveSQL.dat file would be encrypted.

Because of this reason, the company is already looking for a different product.

Setting the value to 0 eliminates the ability of Toad do automatically save the SQL statements (Recently Used or History depending on the version) but adding SQL to Personal/Named or Saved (depending on the version) is no different than doing a File -> Save except the location of the storage is centralized.  How are files with PAN in them handled?  Can a user save a file to their hard drive/thumb drive/network share/puffy cloud?  If they can, then this process is no different and can best be handled by policy enforcement/education vs trying to have a code change made.

Also, as Michael stated, adding encryption all over the product is ineffective and costly as far as processing goes.  A far better solution would to be to encrypt the User Files folder where the information is stored.

I see in older Toad's that 0 did not mean 0. This is fixed in newer versions. I tested in 12.9 and setting statements to 0 does in fact disable automatic SQL Recall.

Sounds like the import and the Editor are running different sessions.   Check to make sure that this option is checked:

Toad Options -> Oracle -> Transactions (RHS) ->   Execute Scripts in Toad Session

Also check to make sure "Execute queries in threads" is unchecked.

Thanks!  It was "Execute queries in threads".

Much appreciated!

I have often loaded data from Excel to a global temporary table in Toad for Oracle and been able to see/query the data both in Schema Browser and Editor.

With version 12.9.0.71 w/ DB Admin Module, I am now unable to query the data after loading via Schema Browser or when using the EXECUTE button in Editor.  When I use Editor and execute my code via the "Run as a Script" button, the data is visible.

The GTT has PRESERVE on commit, hasn't been modified in years, and I've used it as described above flawlessly for years.

Many thanks!

Thank you. As Michael Staszewski wrote in his email (copy/paste of it below), tested it in 12.9. We tested it in 12.6. We will install 12.9. and test it again.

I will come back to you with the results.

We tested it in 12.9 and the file is really empty. I will suggest to encrypt this file or folder.

THANKS guys!!!

Our client must conform to PCI-DSS rules. They work also with credit card PAN's in their SQL statements. PAN can not be stored anywhere on the system in native form. If they execute an SQL statement with PAN as a variable, TOAD stores the sentence in the SQL history and thus they violate PCI-DSS rules..

Is there a possibility in the TOAD to encrypt those stored sentences through TOAD rather than encrypt the UserFiles directory on the system level?

Thanks guys!!

Hi Gregory,

I really appreciate your help with my request, and thank you for forwarding on the “Toad for Oracle” license agreement file.

If possible, would you also have the license agreements for the remaining Toad products (below) I mentioned in my request: (if there is any!) Or could you provide me with contacts to people who could help with these products.

·        Toad for SQL Server

·        Toad for Data Analysts

·        Toad Data Modeler

·        Toad for MySQL

I have used the Dell links you provided before in the past but I find that Dell never get back in contact with me, so really would appreciate if you can help me.

Many Thanks

Dell Software has standardized on licensing agreements so the one I attached earlier should be the same for all of the products you have listed.  There are forums on ToadWorld for each of the products you have listed so if you have any specific questions, you may want to post to the individual forums.  Team members monitor the forums so you should be able to get the info you need directly.

I know this is an old post but I am having the same issue with values being displayed as scientific format when the setting is standard. I read your information below but this issue was not addressed. Was this ever resolved?

I don't have this option is there another way?

If you run your queries with F9 (or click the "execute/compile statement at caret" button), then this is controlled in Toad's main options window:  Options -> Data Grids -> Data -> Display Numbers in Scientific notation.

If you run your queries with F5 (or click the "execute as script" button), large numbers always come back in scientific notation.   A workaround would be  to use TO_CHAR() around the columns in question.    Another workaround for F5 is to add this at the top of your script:

set numformat 999999999999999999999999

If you get any results with #'s instead of digits, you can add more 9's above.

Of course, this will affect every numeric field, and all of your numeric fields will be as wide as the number of 9's you specify with SetNumFormat...so, in this example, all numeric fields in the script would be 24 spaces wide.

Guys,

I am new using Toad. I wanted to know if someone can guide me through making Toad display a numeric value NORMAL. I am getting a result like this 8.3106E+12 and I want the full number, How do I acomplish that? Thanks.

Hey Gary,

I’ve been trying to reproduce the issue you’re describing in-house with our test server using Toad 12.9, but I’m not able to reproduce it.  I upgraded our in-house PVCS test server to 8.5.3 (it was on 8.5.0) to make sure I was using the exact same version of PVCS as you.  However, in all my tests, performing an Undo Checkout also unlocked the object within my PVCS Version Manager locally here.  I did notice, however, that while PVCS Version manager refreshed itself after Toad performed a check-out, it did not automatically refresh itself after Toad performed an undo checkout.  I had to manually press Ctrl+R to refresh the user interface.

Can you send me the output from your VCS Command Log and VCS Debug Log offline?  That may help me be able to track down what may be happening on your machine.

Thanks!

-John

Toad 12.9 Team Coding with PVCS - Undo Checkout leaves object locked in PVCS

First time post to Toad World.  We are migrating from Oracle 11g to 12c, including Toad to 12.9.  We migrated Team Coding, and find that if you Undo Checkout, the object remains locked in PVCS (8.5.3.0).  Toad shows the object is available, but cannot check it out because it is locked.  We have to login to the PVCS Manager and unlock the object.  Checking in the object removes the lock successfully.

I see another post that the object is not reverted back to its original state and recompiled like it used to do, and that this might have been done intentionally.  If it is a performance issue, it would still be nice to have that as an option.  We would prefer to revert the object.  For the most part, we like the new version.

Thank you for your help.
